Back from EurekaFest

EurekaFest was a blast!  Hopefully you have been following the events on Facebook and Twitter.  We had a great time seeing Boston, presenting, talking to people about our project, and listening to several inspiring individuals.  There is a media update to come regarding EurekaFest, but for now, check out Facebook for some images from the trip.  Here are a couple images to start:

Early Bird Gets the Worm

Well, we are all awake now doing some last minute packing, some quick runs for coffee, and perhaps even some last minute shopping before we meet at the school in less than an hour to carpool to the airport.  We are arriving in Boston early to give us some extra time before EurekaFest actually starts.  It has been a great journey from start to finish and we’d like to again thank all of our partners and sponsors for their help.

See you in Boston!

The Final Countdown!

With our departure time to Boston just less than a week away, we are putting everything together to get shipped off and packed up for EurekaFest.  We are very excited to show off what we have done.  Thanks again to everybody who has contributed in any way, shape, or form.  We certainly could not have come as far without our supporters.  If you’d like to follow us more closely during EurekaFest, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @SCHS_Invent.  You can get to our Facebook page by clicking the button at the top right of this page.  We will be using the tag #EurekaFest2014 for all EurekaFest related items.  Thanks!

Final Stretch

With EurekaFest looming, we are making great effort to get the finishing touches on our project.  We are meeting every week day until we leave to ensure that we don’t miss a single detail.  Our tests are looking good and we are currently developing a technical paper describing everything in our project.  We will have more information about our trip as it gets closer.

Good News!

Good News!

We just got back testing results for clay. Our test are very good and show significant improvements with the use of crushed clay as opposed to sand in the filter. We have yet to make use of the biolayer and a flocculent as an additional filtration method so our results are very exciting.

Nearing The End

We are currently running tests and trying out various solutions for the filter.  Through additional research, we’ve discovered that the leaves of the Sisal plant can be used to make partially water tight baskets and structures.  We are working to develop a filter structure out of these leaves and make it completely water tight with a banana sap based glue.  We are still testing the results of moringa seeds and carbonized rice hull ash.

We will be releasing an update video soon with more information on what we are doing with the project.  Be on the lookout!

Back To School

Our two week spring break has ended.  We are now back to school and that means everybody is back to work.  We had some people working over break though and they got a lot of work done.

Break? What break?

Although District 49 is still on the unusually long 2 week break, we have still been diligent about getting work done.  In the midst of break, vacations, and the fundraiser, we have been making progress on testing so that we can develop a final working prototype soon.  It’ll be nice to have our class time back to work however.

Fill the ARC Truck!

We will be filling an ARC truck (or 3) as a fundraiser to fund our trip to MIT in June.  We hope to fill a couple trucks with unwanted, lightly used items like furniture or clothing that will be donated to the arc thrift stores.  For more information on this fundraiser, or if you’d like to donate, please visit the link to our Facebook event.
